Home Office
We are often asked what can you claim against tax if you decide to build, or erect a garden office?
The actual cost of the building structure, or its construction does not qualify for tax relief even if it is portable! (only if it is moveable in course of trade like cabins on building sites)
The good news is that there quite a few expenses you can claim for:
electrical wiring and points / phones, / desks / lighting / security / desks / chairs / computers etc
Integral features such as a water and electricity supply can be claimed and also on office equipment such as shelving, etc, installed in the office as long as they do not form part of the integral structure of the building, such that their removal would cause the structure to collapse.
Having the help from an accountant to complete your business supplement in the tax return can save you a lot of money with the experience and knowledge, especially with changing rules every year.
