We recently took on a client who had received a letter from HMRC demanding payments for penalties for late submission of payroll full payment submissions.
The Client was totally unaware in the first instance that he even had a payroll account so the penalties came as a complete shock.
Upon investigation we were to find that the previous accountant had set up the payroll for the client processed 3 monthly payments and then ceased running the payroll.
We also were to find that the payroll that was processed was incorrect as the client had been paying themselves weekly not monthly.
We were able to talk to HMRC on the clients behalf to hold on the penalties being made and quickly setup the payroll correctly and make the missing submissions.
This cleared the outstanding debt with HMRC and quickly and efficiently brought the client back in line with his commitments for payroll.
The client is now receiving weekly payroll with full reports therefore is totally aware that his payroll is now being handled in a professional and timely fashion.
As a consequence of the above the client also had outstanding obligations with respect to auto-enrolment, we have been able to deal with these on their behalf therefore avoiding further penalties.
